One Summit, several conferences

The Asian Banker Summit is the foremost annual meeting for decision makers in the financial services industry in the Asia Pacific region. The 10th Asian Banker Summit held in Beijing in 2009 attested to the world class status of the event, bringing to bear global leaders and global issues to speak with decision makers in the world’s most dynamic and fastest growing region.

As we enter the Summit’s 11th year, we are breaking the mould and boldly recreating The Asian Banker Summit to make it relevant for yet another decade. The Asian Banker Summit is several conferences in one, catering for bankers, broker-dealers, treasurers and regulators.

We have deepened the quality of discussions on the traditional topics of risk, regulation, cash, treasury and trade. We have introduced a brand new conference that covers the growing importance of markets and the roles of exchanges in the financial services industry.

We are also raising the stakes further through the use of the internet and social networking platforms to create new and important communities to respond clearly to the changes being brought on by greater regulation, competition and innovation.

The 11th Asian Banker Summit comprises of several complementary dialogues that reflect the complexity of today’s industry dynamics. These include:

The Keynote and Thought Leadership Dialogues

The Opening Keynote is delivered by a political or industry leader in the host country. It is an opportunity to showcase achievements and explain policies to the international community.

The Thought Leadership Dialogues feature global leaders of interest to CEOs and senior-most executives. The Asian Banker Summit 2010 will feature seminal figures in the vein of past speakers such as former US vice president Al Gore and Senator Paul Sarbanes. In 2010, our globally renowned thought leaders looks at how financial services will shape up in the near future.

The Risk and Regulation Conference

The Risk and Regulation Conference is Asia’s most important annual conference between leading practitioners from a cross-section of banks and global regulators on a number of critical areas affecting the industry today. These include representatives from the US Federal Reserve Bank System, the European Union, the Bank for International Settlement and leading Asian regulators.

The Risk and Regulation Conference is designed:

  • As an opportunity to interact with global and regional best practice leaders in the areas of market, credit, liquidity and operational risk
  • As a platform for dialogue between regulators and practitioners across markets and geographies, to gain a broader understanding of the different responses to current regulatory and market risk challenges

The Markets and Exchanges Convention

This is the first and the most inclusive ever conference on markets and exchange infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region.

The conference will bring together broker-dealers, the banks and a wide range of related counter-parties, making this the single most important annual conference on the infrastructure and products of markets and exchanges in the Asia Pacific region.

Because it is held in conjunction with The Asian Banker Summit 2010, the two-day Markets and Exchanges Convention includes all the major international and regional banks that make up more than 80 percent of all trades in currencies, derivatives and other securities in the region. It is definitely the most inclusive conference of its kind, cutting across all asset types and classes to focus on the infrastructure that is needed to create depth and liquidity in the markets.

As exchanges around the world build connectivity and access to each other’s pools of liquidity, the dynamics of competition and cooperation is changing dramatically. Connectivity between players in the value chain raises many technical issues, from STP to standards. Access to unregulated markets is changing how this industry will look like in the near future. Financial institutions as well as brokers, dealers, trustees and custodians need to be interacting more with each other so as to make sense of these critical shifts.

These awards are run only every three years to give leaders of financial institutions time to demonstrate strategy and execution (in intervening years, we recognized Promising Young Bankers). The Leadership Awards Gala Dinner is the black tie gathering of outstanding leaders in the Asia Pacific and Middle East - the region’s foremost recognition ceremony. The awards features a candid dinner speech by a global personality and is an evening to remember.

The Annual Industry Business Awards

The Business Awards are presented annually for Cash Management, Trade Finance, Treasury, Payments, Corporate Banking, Risk Management and other related areas. These are presented in conjunction with the Leadership Awards Gala Dinner above.

The Annual Technology and Operations Awards

These awards are presented at a separate ceremony in recognition of technology and operations projects and implementations completed in the past year under review and are presented jointly to the financial institution and the vendors or consultants that they worked with.

The Singapore Bank/ Exchange Tour
