HSBC (Hong Kong), former DBS retail head Koh awarded top retail banking honours
HSBC’s Engel, former DBS retail head Koh and more than 30 other bankers received awards at this year’s Asian Banker Excellence in Retail Financial Services Convention
The Asian Banker’s Excellence in Retail Financial Service 2008 programme culminated with a glittering black tie gala in Bangkok, Thailand, where 41 top banks received awards spanning 23 country and 16 product and service categories. The gala included six new special awards, which recognise achievement in tactical areas of rising importance as competition sharpens around the region.
Held in conjunction with the Excellence in Retail Financial Services Convention, the region’s premier annual gathering of retail banking leaders, The Asian Banker Excellence in Retail Financial Services Awards ceremony honoured leading retail banks for their success in service, franchise building and performance in 2007. The award results are the product of four months of extensive interactive bank research and senior-level interviews, the findings of which were normalised, fed into an evaluation scorecard and refereed by an international panel of advisors.
Addressing the packed gala venue was honorary guest and Bangkok governor, Mr Apirak Kosayothin, who later helped present the Excellence in Retail Financial Services Awards to each of the recipient banks. Receiving the award for top retail bank in the Asia Pacific was HSBC regional head of retail, Conrado Engel. He was joined by Edmund Koh, former managing director and head of regional consumer banking group at DBS Bank, who received the Asia Pacific retail banker of the year award in front of more than 160 senior retail bankers and guests from across Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
